Born in the best place to be born on earth. I have been following him since his earlier Trouble and then Till the Sun Turns Black. I guess he used to work in a shoe factory in Maine and then decided to quit his day job. I wonder if it was at Dexter? I've had a bunch of shoes from them - still have a pair of sweet wingtips. Anyway it's some excellent music - great songwriting and guitar with a folk feel. Check out: A Falling Through, Let It Be Me, and the title track Gossip In The Grain. Listen to the whole album though it's a gem especially if you need some quality mellowing out.

yep love this guy. i haven't heard this whole album but have his others.
i really like your tune guide.
Hi Mark,
I love this guy. I am of tomorrow to Radar Records and listen and purchase! They have 3 of his CDs, I guess they are his only 3 at the moment.
Here are some titles for you to listen to. Do not role your eyes and exclaim 'what is she thinking!' when you listen to these. I do realise that I am a different generation to you with music, but who knows you might enjoy these, take a listen at least.
1. Hayes Carll - Trouble in Mind. This is a little country, a little rock, a little blues and some funny lyrics. Particularly listen to the track 'She left me for Jesus', I do hope this does not offend, but I thought it was very funny. I like this CD it is a 'happy' CD, I feel happy when I listen to it.
2. Kathleen Edwards - Asking for Flowers. I have not heard of her before, she has a familiar sound to her voice. This is kind of ballardy. I think it is a really good CD musically and the lyrics are quite haunting on some tracks, in fact her voice is a little haunting. Some people say she is a little like lucinda Williams, but gentler and better. I love lucinda Williams, I think she is very earthy and lusty in her music. Anyway have a listen to these and see what you think. I am interested in your opinion.
I did it Mark, I bought Ray, most of the tracks on this CD I enjoy and I enjoyed enough of them to buy the CD.
I also bought another, I seem to buy things in twos. Check out Teddy Thompson - A Piece of What you Need. It is an upbeat CD and I really like his voice. I loved him on the CD of covers for leonard Cohen, I'm Your Man, which I am surprised is not on your list of reviews, it is a very, very good CD and the DVD is even better. Anyway check out Teddy and let me know what you think.
Hi Cammocks,
Thanks for your comments, I will definitely check out your recommendations soon. Thanks for stopping in to comment! I think I will start with Kathleene Edwards.
